Can Not Burn CD in iTunes
Hey, I have a rather strange problem with iTunes. I am able to rip CDs fine i nthe program but unable to burn anything. When I attempt to I get the error "Disc burner or Software Not Found". My optical drive is the HL-DT-ST DVDRAM GSA-4083N in a T60p.
I have installed the Lenovo Multimedia pack as I thought that may have contained some necessary drivers but so far no luck. Any suggestions?

I assume you're using the latest version of iTunes (7.2) and that you've already tried reinstalling it. Obviously iTunes has no inherent problem to burn CDs. So I don't think that a future version will solve your problem. I think that the problem lies elsewhere.
In your original post you said that you had installed Lenovo's Multimedia Center. Can you burn CDs with that?

Have you tried different brands of CD/DVD?
Some burners are very particular about what they want to 'burn on'.

Seems you're not alone with this problem http://www.emergingearth.com/itunes-7-cant-burn-cds/. You'll find more if you google around.

According to that link by Anthony S, you need Admin rights to be able to burn CD's in iTunes. There are other burning programs that also exhibit this behavior. Nero has a tool you can download to give everyone using Nero Burning software, burning rights on a PC. I have a feeling this can be circumvented by either registry hacks and/or by adding NTFS permissions to certain folders and files. I have done this sort of thing before to grant regular users permissions to use a program that has admin rights only by default.
Another way to circumvent this might be to right-click on the .exe file that launches iTunes and choose Run as Administrator. You will then need to choose your Admin user ID and enter your password. I believe you need the Secondary Logon service to be running in Start > Control Panel > Administrative Tools > Services for this to work.

While searching for an answer to this problem, I found an answer. I run Vista x64 and I was getting the "Disc burner or Software Not Found" message as well as the Preferences area saying I didn't have a supported burner. Check out this thread, posts 12 and 14: http://forums.ilounge.com/showthread.php?t=12005
Post 12 solved it for me (and I am also running Daemon Tools -- I didn't have to do anything special there).

Looking over your links I see the following interesting information.

So, even if you do not have a GEAR Software application on your system, there may be other software applications that rely on the GEAR CD / DVD Engine, and the GEAR drivers.
http://www.gearsoftware.com/wiki/index. ... TD_DriversGear Software wrote:Recently our QA staff found an incompatibility issue between the SPTD drivers from DuplexSecure and the GEAR ASPI drivers used by the GEARWorks SDK.
The SPTD drivers are commercially available Device IO drivers and are used by the virtual drive emulator Daemon Tools as well as by various other products.
Symptoms
When version 1.43 of SPTD is installed on a system, the GEARWorks SDK will report that no recorders were found on the system.
Also, having Daemon Tools or other software utilities that provide 'virtual' recorders may prevent GEAR from accessing your optical drives
Resolution
DuplexSecure have created a Hot-Fix which resolves this issue. Customers should be advised to download and install SPTD 1.45 which is available at this thread
