SOLD: ~~~~~ Top-Line SXGA+ R60 ~~~~~
ITEM IS SOLD
I had purchased a top-of-the-line R60 for my wife to use on her desk at home. She likes big 15" screens and I was able to find a maxed-out R60 with all the specs of a top T60 plus more, and in an R-series shell. We actually prefer the R-series for use as a reasonable desktop replacement due to the easier to care for non-rubber finish, the normal sized drive bay for future expansion, and all the ports one could want including the TV-out and Firewire you can't get on a T60. The model I settled on was a 946156U. As you can see this is truly a top model, and I've never seen a better spec'ed R60, in fact, most people don't have T60's near this nice:
ThinkPad R60 (Machine Type - Model: 9461-56U - List Price: $2,049)
100.0 GB 7200 RPM HDD,
Intel Core Duo processor T2500 (2.0GHz),
1 GB RAM (only one slot used),
15.0-in TFT 1400 X 1050 (SXGA+),
DVD/RW (Super Multi-Burner),
ATI Mobility Radeon X1400 128 MB,
9 Cell Battery,
Intel PRO/Wireless 3945ABG,
Bluetooth
Fingerprint Reader,
UltraNav,
IEEE 1394 (firewire),
Windows XP Professional
My wife liked the 1st one so much that I thought I'd surprise her and order ANOTHER one for use at her office. WRONG MOVE! Though it arrived a few weeks ago I had to hide it until two days ago when I had some time to open the box and fully update everything (except the BIOS which requires the battery to be installed and I haven't done that as of yet). Hours and hours of work. Well, when she came home and saw it, instead of the big hug and kiss I was expecting I got a kick in the [censored] instead! I guess it must have been my misunderstanding of that "no more laptops until I say so" rule she set down last month?! So now I need to sell this practically new laptop at a really low price just to move it out.
As I said I only opened the box and used it to fully update the drivers, installed software, and the Windows XP Pro OS, then test it all out. It's ready to use as soon as a buyer opens the box. No signs of use. As far as I can see it's in perfect condition. No dead or stuck pixels which is an advantage of buying this way as you never know what's in a sealed box until you test it. Warranty is EasyServ through 5-10-2010, nearly a full three years. As you can see I'm not lying about only having received this recently if the shipping date was May 10th. You get the boxes just as they came to me from Lenovo.
Price is only $999 delivered to a confirmed location in the mainland US. This can be an escrow sale with Bill Morrow as the escrow agent and I will pay the escrow fee too. $999 is your full price. Payment method if choosing escrow will be a cashier's check or postal money order. The buyer also has the option of dealing with me directly if they want to use a credit card through PayPal. The price is not negotiable. I looked all over for the past day to make sure it was priced well below any Thinkpad with specs anywhere near this nice and with a 3-year warranty (plus it can escrowed free for a safer transaction).
I'm not selling this because I want to as I love using the one I originally bought for her in early April and would love to have another. My wife just doesn't see it that way! Oh, for full disclosure I have to tell you that I just saw the battery is involved in the March 2007 recall (as was the battery from my early-April purchase). I'm filling out the form for that one now and can do the same for this one if the buyer wants. ---> [EDIT: I purchased a brand new Lenovo 9-cell that's on It's way and I will exchange batteries so the buyer will have a new one from day 1 and not be inconvenienced with a battery exchange]
Thanks,
- Yak

That's a very very sweet deal and Yak is a trusted member of this forum.

Of course. He has sold far more Thinkpads than anyone else on this forum. I bought an X40 from him in Dec 2005.ryengineer wrote:Yak is a trusted member of this forum.
Does anyone know if the UXGA-Flexview LCD from an R50p would be compatible with this R60? I have a UXGA panel plus cable plus inverter that I removed from my R50p.

This is a really good deal. If I hadn't just made an amazing deal on this board, I wouldn't wait a second. I'm sure it will be gone within days.
I love the story with your wife, brainpicker! I, too, have a very aggressive wife who doesn't share my love of computers. Thank God, she's too tiny to seriously hurt me, which means I'll go ahead and buy a 600 the next weeks.

And the sad part about that statement is that I'm just a regular laptop & gadget lover and NOT a business of any kind. Nothing is sold to make a buck, just to clear out what I don't want anymore. I buy, I play, then sell what I don't prefer or can't use once something better for us has taken it's place. Yes, I have sources for good deals so I don't lose my shirt when I sell these things, but I never buy with the intent to sell (except for some good battery deals I ran into and passed on to break even after shipping). A lot of what I accumulate are broken deals from when I buy things in advance for local kids who have no credit cards and such (the extra ThinkVision 17" LCD Monitor is a great example!). That I don't do anymore after learning my lesson 27 1/2 times. At any given time I have a lot of laptops in various places, and from time to time one or more have to go to make room for the new toys (and I change quite often). Anyone want a great deal on a like-new Fujitsu Stylistic Slate Computer fully loaded with 9-hour battery life? That one has to go next to make room in advance of my NEXT have-to-have laptop when my wife's ban is lifted (or she forgets)!pianowizard wrote: Of course. Let me share The Secret with everyone on the forum who has a wife. ThinkPads are black and all look the same to them. Just make sure you don't have too many out in the open at one time.Jan_Hoho wrote:This is a really good deal. If I hadn't just made an amazing deal on this board, I wouldn't wait a second. Another question: Does anyone know whether the R50p's QXGA panel (plus inverter and LCD cable) would work in this R60? The 128MB video is certainly powerful enough to drive QXGA. If the answer is "yes", I will buy this R60 right now!

Yak, that is a FANTASTIC price, are you sure you cannot hide the R60 someplace?
Here are pics from the HMM that I found:

Note the parts that I highlighted in red, you'll see the differences. In the T4x/R5x, the LCD cable is located more closer to the left hinge compared to the T60/T60.
Someone please correct me if I am wrong, but AFAIK this swap can't be done.
Unfortunately, the answer is NO ... the cable connector positions are physically different between T4x/R5x and the T60/R60. This was discussed in detail in the T6x forum a while back, I'll post the relevant link as soon as I find it.pianowizard wrote:Another question: Does anyone know whether the R50p's QXGA panel (plus inverter and LCD cable) would work in this R60?
