Put Atheros 5004X Wireless Module in T42

#1 Post by rmaurer » Tue Oct 12, 2004 10:34 pm

I just bought one of the new Netgear WGU624 a/b/g routers and am quite pleased with it. It has Super-A and Super-G and works superbly with Netgear's "Double 108" PC card. My apartment complex has 16 wireless networks up within range on the 2.4 Ghz spectrum and using Super-A cured quite a few bandwidth problems for me (streaming video, copying large files , etc.)

I would like to use Super A with the internal card in my T42 rather than using a PC card. Currently I have the 2200bg (which works fine with the newest drivers). I know that the IBM a/b/g card is available, but it uses an older Atheros chipset. Atheros makes a 5004x mini-pci module called the CM-9 that I would like to use.

Will this work in my T42? Will it support the wireless on/off light? Do I have the requisite antennas for this card?

Thanks in advance,
Ralph

IBM just released their new IBM 802.11a/b/g II mini-PCI card that uses the Atheros AR5004X chipset. It's easiest to use this IBM version instead of a generic version since the Thinkpad bios will lockout non-approved (i.e. non-IBM) mini-PCI cards unless you hack the bios.

Look in the TABOOK under the October 2004 X40's and T42's.

Cool. Good eye, CSV96. Of course, there's no FPU listed or other information on the IBM Web site, LOL. When do you think these will be available as a separate item rather than embedded in a T42?

Part Number 93P4262, 93P4264, and 93P4266. Don't know when you can order them though.
