Uses for X61/X60 Tablet

#1 Post by leesiulung » Fri Jun 08, 2007 4:47 pm

I'm considering an upgrade, but cannot make a choice on choosing X61s or X61T.

The price difference is like $400-$500, which is significant. However the tablet with the better screen feature is very tempting.

What do you use your tablet for? In particular things that a traditional laptop can not. Any interresting uses?

It seems like a great idea for easier reading (i.e. like a book), note taking, faster navigation on Windows UI etc...

Trying to find out why I would want spend extra money and experience larger size and heavier weight.

Take a look at this thread.

I have never used a tablet but can tell you that the weight of the X60 or X61 tablet (3.77 - 4.25 lbs) is very heavy. I have a 570E that's in the same ballpark (4.03 lbs) and have also owned a 2.9-lb X60s. The weight difference between them is HUGE. But, the tablet's SXGA+ screen is also far more useful than the X61s's XGA. It's a tough decision.
Microsoft Surface 3 (Atom x7-Z8700 / 4GB / 128GB / LTE)
Dell OptiPlex 9010 SFF (Core i3-3220 / 8GB / 8TB); HP 8300 Elite minitower (Core i7-3770 / 16GB / 9.25TB)
Acer T272HUL; Crossover 404K; Dell 3008WFP, U2715H, U2711, P2416D; Monoprice 10734; QNIX QHD2410R; Seiki Pro SM40UNP

Besides the 'wow' factor?

I just migrated from X60 to X60 tablet. My X60 is around 1.6kg and the tablet is around 2 kg. I use it for sales presentation and getting signatures on the contract. With my X60 I need to lug around a seperate electronic siganture pad which is a bit bulky and 200g.

So I guess weight wise both are the same, except the tablet is more convenient.

If you are a student, scribbling the notes down is cool. However, when i was on the subway, I gets curious people looking at what I am scribbing. Compared to with X60 when you are typing, less people are interested.

My tablet is the multiview version, however, if you lay donw flat on a table, the pages on the screen seem a bit off. It's useful for my sales presentation, but I guess quite taxing on the eyes after a while

This topic was covered in excruciating detail in the thread below, including a very long post my yours truly. I bought an X61 tablet and am starting to get parts of the system delivered (but no computer yet!). I am a cross-over user that will probably use the keyboard 80% of the time, but the tablet features for reading (in portrait mode), outdoor portability use because of multiview, and the use of touch and stylus in apps like Photoshop is very alluring. The weight is much less than my 8 pound DELL 8500.
