how bright is flexview supposed to be?

I just got my T60p and my screen is not as bright as my old sony XBRITE. Is that normal? I thought the flexview screen were supposed to be really bright. Do you think there is somehing wrong with my screen?

14.1" SXGA+? That would be 200 nits, about 33% brighter than standard screens.

I have a 15" UXGA. Is there a way to test the brightness of the screen to see if it actually gets 200nits? Do you know what the nits for Sony XBRITE is?

I received my T60 with flexview a month ago. I love the screen, particularly the color reproduction and viewing angles, but it isn't terribly bright, particularly when compared to some of the ultrabright glossy screens (Sony's etc...)

Well that makes me feel better. At least my screen is not defectively dim. I guess it takes some getting used to coming from the glossy XBRITE. Thanks

What is/are "nits"? How can I test what I have. Also, I have FlexView, but don't even know what it is. Is it so you can see it from the side? Finally, what's IPS? lol...Thanks...I've always wanted to know those definitions. Thanks guys!

PLEASE HELP. I figured out the problem. If my laptop is running on battery power screen becomes dimmer even at the highest setting. When I plug it back in, it becomes brighter at the same setting. Is there any way I can make it so it will have consistent brightness between the battery and AC power?

I believe there's an LCD brightness setting in the BIOS that will run the screen on full brightness, even on the battery. It's not recommended, though, because it increases battery use.

Check the settings in Catalyst Control Center, power manager and your BIOS. How dim goes it get? In general, screen is supposed to get dimmer on battery.

You guys are the best. I changed the BIOS setting and it totally fixed the problem. I realize that the battery should have lower power consumption, but that's what the display brightness levels are for. When using battery power it sould just change it to a lower level, not make it more dim at every level. At least that way you have the option of having it at the brightest level if you want. Thanks again. Problem solved.
