[X30] Add an internal antenna *PIC*

#1 Post by automatic_jack » Sat Jun 09, 2007 7:45 am

Hi all,

if I buy an internal antenna like this, can I add it to my X30 (2672-42U) that hasn't one?

Thanks and sorry for my poor English :)

So, all X30 can contain an (internal antenna), I have only to buy a compatible one (i.e 27L6745)...is it true?

Is X31 internal antenna (67P1449) usable in X30?

In other words, can my X30 - that hasn't an internal antenna - fit this antenna:

Thanks :)

I also have an X30 that doesn't have an internal WiFi antenna. I found a similar antenna on eBay (for X31) and I've asked the seller the same quesiton. I haven't heard back yet, but I will let you know what he says.

Ciao!

Hello again!

I just heard back from that eBay seller about the X31 antenna fitting into an X30.

His response was that the X31 antenna can be installed into an X30, however it is not an easy job, and there are additional parts that will be required. He didn't say anything beyond this. I've asked him exactly what "...not an easy job" means, and what are the extra parts that will be required. He claims to have done this before so hopefully he'll get back to me soon.

Last night I installed a Bluetooth antenna into my X30 (it goes under the left hand side hinge), which in my opinion wasn't an "easy" job, but if that's the magnitude of difficulty for installing an X31 antenna then it's really not that bad. And if the required parts are easy to find, then I'll probably get the X31 antenna myself.

I'll let you know what the seller says.

Ciao!

Will you use a Bluetooth Daughter Card (BDC) in your X30? Which BDC models are compatible?

Thanks :)

I have just received this antenna:

Image

and it doesn't fit in X30 LCD because non-wireless model hasn't space for it as you can see at pages 128,129,130,131, 132 of the ThinkPad X30, X31, X32 - Hardware Maintenance Manual but...if you remove the metallic bars - showed at page 131 - then the antenna fits

Sorry for my English

Regards

I just installed the X31 wireless antenna into my X30. It was a tight fit, but I didn't modify or change the X31's antenna to fit my X30 and I didn't need any extra parts.

The only drawback is that the sides of the LCD case buldge just slightly where the ends of the antennae terminate on either side of the LCD. But it's almost unnoticable unless you really look close (and anyone who knows me, knows that I am EXTREMELY picky about the appearance of things, and the bulges really don't bother me at all).

As far as difficulty to install is concerned, it's only marginally more difficult to install than the Bluetooth antenna (which is under the left hinge). Removing the LCD's front bezel was the most challenging part of this install, the rest was pretty straight forward.

So anyone looking to add a genuine IBM FRU wireless antenna to your X30, you can use the X31 wireless antenna with no additional parts or modifications.

Now, all I have to do is decide which Bluetooth and WiFi card to install. For Bluetooth, I'm thinking about using FRU 91P7315 modem/Bluetooth daughter card (MBDC) which was OEM in X31s. Haven't decided on a WiFi card yet but the FRU 67P1449 card looks promising (also an X31 part).

michaelnicola, did you try the 91P7315 BMDC200 card in your X30 and did it work?
