please disregard the 512 ram because i'm going to buy a ram separately to install. i specifically want to know whether it is worth it for around 1200 dollars? also, isn't my processor supposed show up twice on the list like my 512 is listed two times? i see it in other ppl's specs. thanks guys, im quite new to IBMs

Did you really want the super low display resolution (1280x800)? 15.4" WS is huge and even if you want to see big texts and images, WXGA+ (1440x900) would be a better choice. Most people on this forum would choose an even higher res, WSXGA+ (1680x1050). A few people would even rather wait for the T61p, which has a 15.4" WUXGA (1920x1200) screen, though this screen is not for the faint of heart.

Why not smaller text with higher res?rukiri wrote:Also, since he's getting vista, a higher resolution screen won't mean smaller text, it'll mean sharper text.
Won't his screen offer the same pixel size and density regardless of whether Vista or XP is installed on it?

Does he have only one gb of ram as two 512 MB dimms?
I'd double that as two one gb dimms, minimum.
I recently upgraded one of my R50p laptops to 2 gb and I now find it running faster and usually having only 800 mbs free in task manager. That machine is running XP with Outlook with a 500 mb PST file, pcAnywhere host, and the usual system tray culprits. When I launch Word or IE7, it still flies.
I'd like 3 gigabytes on the T61p I plan to order this summer (when the 7K200 travelstar filters down).
