Installing 2nd HD in Ultrabay, Is better ATA or SATA disk ?

I have both types (ATA and SATA) of Ultrabay Slim HD Adapter, and I have 100GB 7200 RPM ATA and SATA disk. Which one should provide the better perfomance and integration to the system ?, my understanding is that the Ultrabay slot will work always as ATA interface for the CDROM or the HD, so it should be more efficient to just install and ATA HD and avoid the internal conversion between the SATA HD and the ATA interface, what do you think ?, thanks

For the present generation of hard drives, if the only difference between the drives is the interface, then there is no difference whatsoever in practical performance which adapter/drive you use. (Note: One could construct a benchmark to highlight differences, but that benchmark would not have relevance to the typical daily use one would make of the notebook.)

I think it should be faster with the SATA HD, because is newer technology ?, or it will not make any sense ?, what do you think ?, thanks

If you have two drives of the same model (capacity, platter density), one with PATA and one with SATA, the performance will be the same.

If your SATA drive is newer (which is likely, but not certain), then it will be faster, though the difference may be negligible in real life.

If your PATA drive is newer, it will similarly be faster.

There is a question of which interface is native, as the other one would have a bridge chip. However, loss in perfomance from going through a bridge chip is negligible.

i fiddled with this quite a lot and can simply say "not that easy"!
i experienced tremendous speed differences depending on as well the hdd adapter i used and the hd i used!
my absolute winner to date is ide slice fru 62p4553 in combination with a samsung hm120jc.
i did a benchmark comparing it to the sata intern quite a while ago here: ( look for post from thormdac )
