T22 Heat Problem/Help?

#1 Post by whizzer » Mon Jun 11, 2007 8:52 am

Working on a T22 for a friend. He purchased off of ebay, passes all PCDoctor test but still overheats. HSF appears not to be running. Removed keyboard to examine the Fan, problem I see is there is no power connectors to the fan assembly. Looking at the manual, it say there should be a power connector wires that connect to a socket on the top, but the fan has no connector and the socket already has a connector in it. I looked in my A22, it has a terminal on the right side that has a black wire connected to it. The T22 Fan has the screwhole for the fan but the mobo does not have a wireing harness to connect to the terminal. Looks like he has a [censored] T22. Anybody have any ideas on providing power to the Fan?

The fan on T21 and T22 do not have a plug style connector. They are contacts underneath the fan assembly. The T23 does have the plug in style connection. Need more info download the HMM here.

Is there a utility to test the fan and the sensors?

The diagnostic program has nothing the tests the fan or temp sensors. Everything tested ok. But still no fan.

Under the Diagnostics menu, click on "Other Devices" and you should see tests for both the thermal sensors and fan.

Ive got a T22 with overheating problems as well, the fan runs when it wants to.

I don't understand where the airflow is supposed to go. The fan seems to have no intake.

The fan has three contacts on the underside of the heatsink assembly that are pressed onto four contacts (top one unused) when the HSF is installed.

It seems to be tied into a temperature sensor, as it will run full speed when the CPU has been at peak usage for a few minutes.

I wish I could make the fan run all the time, because my pcmcia wifi card is overheating but the CPU is cool and keeps the fan disabled.

I too was having freeze problems and thought hard drive right away. Hard drive arrived went to format and install...yep froze again! I figuired nothing to lose so I pulled it apart. Thermal paste on top of CPU was almost gone. Picked up some artic paste at radio shack for $10. and now Im up and running so be it with a bigger hard drive and winxp. Simple fix only wish I tried it before I purchased the other hard drive...lesson learned :D

from what i know [although i'm no thermal design expert] the T22 draws air in from under the PCMCIA slots [as theres a vent there to permit air, and the air exits next to the fan. at least thats how mine works. thermal paste does help, but i've used it in the past.
