T61 OS dilemma

Hey,

I ordered my T61 with Vista and am now having second thoughts after some of the BSOD complaints I've read about.

Can anybody tell me how to do a fresh install of Windows XP on a system that is already configured with Vista. I realize it is probably more difficult than booting up with the Windows XP disc. If someone could please provide me with steps on how to do this correctly, I would greatly appreciate it. I already have the Windows XP OEM disc. Thanks.

BTW, i don't mind completely deleting the partition that Vista is on if that would make the whole process easier.

First, before you do anything else. Boot it up and make a set of restore discs. You can make a full cd set or a 1 cd, 1 dvd set. You may want Vista someday in the future after they get it straightened out.
Then you can probably just install XP from your cd and go get System Update 3 and let it install all the drivers for you.

Why not keep that hard disk with Vista on it until the next Service Pack comes out? Sooner or later you might want to start using it.
Buy another HD for XP in the meantime.

As dumb as this is going to sound, is there a guide or something that explains how to make a set of restore discs? I have never needed to do this before.

I would definitely prefer not to purchase another hard drive

That's what the ThinkVantage button is for. To learn the features of your new ThinkPad.

With the recovery discs you will make you can do whatever you want tot he hard drive and still be able to restore it to out of the box condition.
It is simple. You will see when you get the laptop.

Thanks guys, this is just what I was looking for. You all have been a huge help.

Just one last thing. When the guide says to copy the driver to a diskette does that include a CD/DVD-R or specifically just a floppy disc (I dont believe my T61 has a floppy drive if this is the case). I'm betting that a CD/DVD would work just fine, but I just want to be sure that everything is correct. Thanks again everyone for all your help, I really appreciate it.
