Safari browser now available for Windows

Just downloading it now - anyone else had the chance to try it out?

That is awesome. I love safari on my Powerbook. I am downloading beta 3 right now and will try it out. I hope it's as good as it is on my Mac.

I don't know, I like Opera so much...

What does Safari offer over other browsers?
(In other words, why should I populate my registry with even more keys?)

Yes, I'm typing on it now actually. I was on Apple for something else and saw that browser and being the browser collector that I am........ It is a pretty clean interface, edge to edge seems wider and the top bar is much smaller than Firefox. I like how it highlights in blue the box you are supposed to be typing in, for usernames, passwords and such. It instantly imported all of my Firefox and IE Favorites. My one question, how do I get my bottom taskbar to stay on top?? I have it set to auto hide but when I pull the mouse down to the bottom, the ttaskbar does not appear, even if I set it to Lock the Taskbar. I have to minimize the browser window to see my taskbar. Other than that, I am liking it, pages do load faster.

I downloaded it also last night but didn't install it. Did you download any plugins also? If so, which ones are needed? Was it a clean install, no problems? Appreciate it.

I installed it and instantly remembered one of the reasons why I do not like Safari. The mouse side buttons do not work for browser page forward and back. Ron all I had to do was install Quicktime.

Ron, it installed quickly and cleanly and I already had all the plug-ins from using Firefox. My middle mouse scroll button works fine too.

Pages load faster because there's no extensions to bog it down.

Some problems:

No right click hotkeys for opening tabs, like there is in FF, IE and OP.
Doesn't remember previous size when restarting.
No choice of "about: blank" for home page. (Had to do it myself)
Appearance doesn't have a "show page fonts" tick-box, only drop-down options to choose standard and fixed width ones.
Security options are light.
No skins, or ability to change the silver color to another.
Backspace doesn't work to go back.

I like the toolbar customization. I can make it pretty thin, As good as FF, if not better there. (HATE that I can't in IE7)

Needs work though.

Not sure how you mean this one, if I right click over the tab bar a window comes out that says New Tab and if I click that a blank new tab window opens. Is this what you are referring to?

It does need work though, I like how the Bookmarks open down on a little drop down box in Firefox, in Safari it actually takes you to a whole window that shows your entire bookmark hierarchy. But then again it is still a beta.

EDIT: I ditched Safari, I am back to my Opera 9.21

Openning new tabs from external links doesn't work either.

A. No. All browsers do that. I mean that there's no hotkey on those choices, like on FF or IE.

Like when you right click on a link in FF and hit "T" it will open the link in a new tab. In IE it's "W". In Safari, there doesn't seem to be any.

B. You need to go to the "Imported Bookmarks" folder (Netscape/Mozilla, or IE), select all and drag them to the "Bookmarks Menu" in order to have that. It's not a bug, just the way they designed it.

Yeah.

Also, while pages load quickly once it's started, I do notice that it takes longer than a basic FF installation. Nothing beats IE for starting up though.

According to web rumours, that browser is 'holier' than a Swiss cheese, and almost as unsafe as a Ford Pinto.
I'll stick with FF.

I never intended to switch to it in the first place, but I like to have all current versions of popular browsers to check webpages, especially for compliance.

I really like the Speed Dial feature on the newest version, it is like a big picture book and makes it easy for my DH who does not care for bookmarks on the toolbar.
