R50 display on an R52 - will it work?

#1 Post by underclocker » Tue Jun 12, 2007 2:10 pm

Does anyone know if the connector is the same for the R50's and R52's?

I know the HMM has different part numbers, but I'd like to put a 15" high res. (SXGA+) display from an R50 on an R52 XGA mdoel (both are 15" models).

The cable location seems the same, but I haven't removed the R52 bezel to check on the connector size/shape.

Has anyone been in there or done this swap? Will it work?

Thanks in advance.

YES it works!!!

I just swapped an SXGA+ IPS 15" display from an R50 (1836-3SU) to an R52 (1860-BUU) that had a 15" XGA display. No issues at all.

The system board connector and all screws, hinges, etc. were identical on both machines.

The R52 line didn't even come with the SXGA+ with IPS. Now that's an upgrade.

Truly. Congrats.

I think IPS will only be a myth to new users since Lenovo is unlikely going to offer it again.
