External drive for 42-p

#1 Post by bailey45 » Tue Jun 12, 2007 4:31 pm

Hello all. I am trying to connect an external drive to my 42-p (2373-QIU) through the Dock II PCI-X port. I would like to use an eSATA connection, but the card that I bought works with an IDE controller exclusively. The tech service through IBM said that this wouldn't be possible because the PCI-X slot is only configured for SCSI/RAID (thus no option in BIOS). Is there a way to switch the PCI-X port to IDE, or do I have to purchase a different card? Further, does a PCI-X card with a SCSI/RAID controller even exist? I sure would like to have that snappy 3Mb/sec speed with the SATA connection to the external hard drive. Thanks for all of your help. I hope I explained my situation clearly enough.
