Best case for an R52??

#1 Post by stringer » Tue Jun 12, 2007 7:25 pm

Hi,

I finally gave in and bought a thinkpad. It is on sale for $499 http://www.directlenovo.com/public/publ ... y=Template

Whats the best case for this thing? I was looking at the premiere leather case, but read a couple small reviews that said it was cheap and gay. Thanks in advance.

im leaning towards the organizer right now. i wanted a black one with ibm labeling made for an R series that has enough room for extras in a traditional case design. any opinions on this case or others? (sub $100)

what do u think about my $499 thinkpad?

Seems like a bargain...

In Thailand IBM is trying to gain market share before they switch to lenovo. I got an R60 duocore 14" with 100g hd for around 700$ , and a x60 12" Core2duo 120g with 1024meg for around 1200$

This was about 6 months ago.

All other computers seem more expensive then in the states - They even try to sell lenovo for the same price as IBM!

IBM 3 years guarantee, one year total insurance (can play frisbee)
Lenovo 1 year guarantee

You know some people might find something "cheap and gay" and in leather a very attractive option.

Congrats on the R52, try not to spend another 20% on a case.

I have one, though I've not used it as of yet. Cheap... not at all (I think it's the nicest leather case I own). Gay... I have a "don't ask don't tell" policy with all my Thinkpads and accessories :D .

Thanks to underclocker and brainpicker for the hearty laughs. And a HUGE thanks and bow to stringer for the heads-up and link. I just bought one of the other R52s (18498DU) for $599!!! Get 'em while they're (hopefully not) hot!

You're quite welcome - and welcome to the forum.

The price just went up to $1,499 from $499 - must be a mistake!!!

It was no mistake.

I originally posted this deal on fatwallet http://www.fatwallet.com/t/18/739329/

I used to go by stringer on that site but I got banned for calling ppl cheap and gay. im fattymcwallets now.

I also got one of the $599 thinkpads that was on there today. Same as the $499 ones but with a pentium 750 instead of a 740, bluetooth, 60 gig hd instead of 40, dvd burner/RAM drive, better wireless card, fingerprint reader etc.

i saved that lenovo surplus link to my favs ever since i found them selling brand new z series thinkpads with 15.4' ws units with celerons for $199 with free shipping. there were about 60 or so of those and i just missed out coz they were gone in like minutes and i had to create a stupid account and all.

also, if it is showing up as 1499 instead of 499, just continue to checkout step 2 of 2, and the price will be 499 with free shipping.

This is a very good tip and explains a lot! Another thread on this board was trying to figure out how some guy on eBay was selling these base R60's for so little (but more than $199!)

P.S. The other one is back to $499 now.

i wonder if i should get the premiere leather case or the organizer or something else?

is there room to store much else in the ibm premiere leather case?

any organizer owners here want to chime in?

id need room for other stuff like maybe a couple files, books, odds and ends.

Stringer, thanks for posting that link on fatwallet.com. As the head IT person at the bank I work at, we were in need of replacing a number of older T21 and T22 machines that had been in use for 5 to 6 years. We wound up buying 5 of the $499 models and 5 of the $599 models in the past two days. Normally we only buy T series, but at this price-and for their intended application-these R52's should be more than adequate.

The $499 models should ship out tomorrow, so they should be here by next week-looking forward to see how they turn out!
I lost count...
