Sounds like the video signals are not getting to the LCD or that the LCD itself can't display them correctly, thus the problem could be in several areas:
- motherboard (graphics chip set or connector to LCD cable)
- LCD cable, or the connectors associcated with it
- LCD (problem with circuitry on the back of the panel)
First thing to try would be to re-seat all of the video cable connections. This would be the one on the motherboard near the right hinge (if I remember correctly) and the one on the back of the LCD.
One other thing to check is to try plugging in an external monitor and see if the problem shows up there. If so, then a definite motherboard replacement. If the external monitor works fine, the problem could still be with the motherboard, but only with the LCD display circuitry.
The cable would be the cheapest to replace; the motherboard and LCD, probably about the same cost (guessing >$50). If you have another 600E to play with (i.e., play donor), you could transfer the entire lid assembly to the problem system and see if that works. If it does, then you've isolated it to two parts (cable and LCD). If not, then you are probably looking at a motherboard issue.
