no sound on x40
Hello,
I've got an X40 that won't output any audio. Not only that: the internal speaker ('beeper') is silent even though the system is configured to beep when docking, undocking, etc. I'm pretty sure the hardware's okay, since it did beep when running the bios update, and I got audio out of the speakers successfully on 2 occasions (no idea how). System is running XP Pro and using the ADI SoundMax drivers (5.12.1.5410). Any ideas? Thanks.

Simular case on X21, dunt sure it applicatable on your TP
i suppose u have pressed the mute button on the keyboard
try to press the volume increase button on the keyboard,
since this set of volume button has no relationship with windows
and it also mutes BIOS Beeps.
if ur speaker is working, when u press Mute then press Increase,
the speaker should give out one "BUP" sound ,then u may try again to open any application to listen to ur music

Seems to be a weird software issue in my case. Audio works fine in Linux. Sometimes in Windows it's not there. Oddly, going to the Thinkpad Configuration application and changing whether it beeps on volume change to on and then off brings it back. It's not muted or disabled, and the audio won't play through the headphone jack either in such cases. Thanks for the suggestions though.
