please help - logging on to websites with fingerprint reader

The IBM tech guys told me that with the new version of the fingerprint reader you can no longer log on to websites using it. I thought one of the main reasons for having a fingerprint reader is to be able to log on to different websites with it.
Is there any work arounds to make it work, like 3rd party software. Is anyone currently using the fingerprint reader to log on to websites?

Those "IBM tech guys" are incorrect.

I am able to log onto Web sites with FS 5.6. However, for some reason, logging onto my Web-based e-mail nearly always requires at least 2 finger swipes. I am also having trouble with one other site where I pay my utility bill, but I believe I simply need to delete the UserID and password and re-enter that information to fix the error.

I have about a dozen Web sites configured for use with FS 5.6. However, I may downgrade FS to 5.5.x because it seemed to be more stable.

As such, there are no "workarounds." I'd revert back to FS 5.5.x to see if that would resolve your issues.

how did you manage to log on to websites using FS 5.6? Would you mind giving instructions? I have Client Security Solutions 7.0 and FS 5.6 but it never even gives me the option to use my fingerprint reader to log on. Password Manager 2 is the only thing that pops up asking to remember my log information.

Your problem may be that you need to upgrade to CSS 8.0. Please further describe how you are interacting with TPM.

For example, have you registered your fingerprints with FS 5.6? I know that sounds really obvious, but it would help to know how you are working with and configuring CSS, ThinkVantage Password Manager 2.1.0 (TPM) and FS 5.6 to work with each other. I know, I know: it can be a pain.

When TPM pops up asking you to remember the information you just entered in the UserID and Password fields of the Web page, are you **completing** those steps in the pop-up dialogue box? FS 5.6 is fairly transparent. You will usually not interact with it (except at logon for Windows and Web pages) after enrolling your fingerprints.

You must create a named entry in the TPM database and select the option that either asks for your fingerprint every time or just once per session for that entry.

Just follow the prompts when TPM asks you if you want to save the information, and then complete those steps. If you are still having trouble, I would recommend you reinstall FS 5.6 and TPM 2.1.0. You will likely have to upgrade to CSS 8.0. However, I believe there is a specific sequence required for installing CSS 8.0. Start with studying CSS first, then reinstall the others after that.

Yes, I did register my fingerprints and I do use FS to log onto Windows.
However, I didn't realize that I had to use TPM 2 in conjuction with FS 5.6 to log on to websites. I always select "no" for TPM because I thought is was just like IE password manager in that is just populates the field automatically without additional biometric security.
I don't have the laptop with me right now, but I will follow your instructions when I get home tonight.

Thanks USSS. It works now. I guess it was stupid of me, but I didn't realize that it worked in conjunction with password manager. I just hope password manager is secure enough to store my passwords.

No problem...glad I was able to guide you through the maze. The software really should be more intuitive, but I guess that is par for the course. I can attest that TPM works well and is relatively secure, but improvements are welcome -- and needed. Is Lenovo listening?
