How many hours are you getting from a 4 Cell on a x60?

#1 Post by CyberDude » Thu Jun 14, 2007 2:23 am

Hi

I'm only getting around 90 minutes from my 4 cell when just browsing the web (using Wifi) and doing a little word processing. When on battery all power setting are set to low via the Power Manager.

90 minutes is a long way short of the claimed 3 hours you're supposed to get. Is it the WiFi that's chewing the battery so quickly? I have the Inel ABG card. Anything else I can do to try improve my battery life?

What's eveyone else getting from their 4 cells?

My battery details are:
Design cap: 28.8
Full Charge cap: 24.97
Cycles: 25
First used: 06/2006
One of the last IBM branded Thinkpads.
IBM X60s 1704-56G running openSuSe 11.2 | KDE 4.5.4
IBM X30 2672-47G in retirement

What are your power settings (for the computer generally, and for the wifi card, in particular)?

My battery power setting are as follows:

Max CPU speed: Lowest
Optimize fan control: Balace all parameters
Display brightness: Level 1
Turn off display: after 5 mins
Stop HDD rotation: After 3 mins
Enter system standby: After 10 mins
Enter system hibernate: After 15mins

WiFi settings as set in Access Connections.
Wifi transmit power level set to 100%
Power save mode set to medium. My signal strength is not great at around 40% so I can't set this to High.

Enable radio management support is unchecked. I don't know what this does anyway.

It's the Slim 4 cell for X60s correct? Most people are getting around 2 hours from it.

Yep, that's correct. Is that 2 hours from full charge to run flat? I tend not to let me battery drop below 25% in the interest of preserving the battery. However, by the time it's got to 30% the power starts dropping fairly quickly so the last 25% can't offer more than 20-25 mins.
