not possible to upgrade Embedded Controller

#1 Post by MartinB » Thu Jun 14, 2007 6:28 am

When ever my fan (T42) hits level 2 it never returns to a lower level, even running idle for several hours. I have tried a fresh XP install without any improvement. I have the latest Embedded Controller version, but still I would like to try a fresh "update" of this too. When using "Embedded Controller Program", ThinkPad T42 2379-R5U , the program delivers an error "the process does not recognize this system", why is that? Any other way to do this?

Mod Edit: I fixed your link as it was missing this segment sitestyle=lenovo& to make it work. Also modified link to avert horizontal scrolling.

I don't know, have you tried the non-diskette utility package?

You could alternatively use TPFanControl to manually adjust the speed of your fan. I have TPFanControl running in the background as a service so everytime my laptop boots up the Smart Mode takes over the Embedded Controller. As a matter of fact I prefer smart mode than EC.

Actually it is the non-diskette version, there does not seem to be a diskette-version....

Sure there is. Look for the links under Additional Information.

Embedded Controller Program (Non-Diskette) - ThinkPad R50, R50p, R51 (1829, 1830, 1831, 1836), T40, T40p, T41, T41p, T42, T42p

Embedded Controller Program (Diskette) - ThinkPad R50/p, R51 (1829, 1830, 1831, 1836), T40/p, T41/p, T42/p

Note that if you update the Embedded Controller and the BIOS also needs to be updated, you are to update the BIOS first. Verify that the Embedded Controller version you are using is compatible with the BIOS version you are using.

Installed the TPFanControl, great program! The only issue is that the sensors "BUS", "PCI" and "PWR" reads zero. It this normal for a T42? All the other sensors ("CPU".....) delivers a temperature reading.
