T21 Resolution
T21 Resolution
This is a stupid question I think.
I have a Thinkpad T21. With the resolution set at 1024x768 it fills the screen correctly. When I set the resolution any higher, the screen 'expands' past my lcd. If that makes sense. It expands bigger than my screen, and I have to move my mouse down or up / left or right to show the rest of the screen.
Is there a fix for this?
I've tried updating all my drivers / Savage adapter drivers.
Thanks so much!
Jacob

The LCD is XGA only displaying 1024x768. Since your T21 is not an SXGA+ model (you would have that display if you did), you cannot upgrade to an SXGA+ screen. To do so you will need to get a T21 motherboard with the Savage XI+ video chipset of a T22 or T23 that can support SXGA+ LCD.
I have finally rejoined the dark side.
ThinkPad T450s, Core i7 5600u, 12GB RAM, Samsung 850 EVO 500GB SSD.
Previous ThinkPads: T41, T21, 600E

According to the IBM tawbook, only 6 models of the T21 came with the 14.1" SXGA+ LCD screens:
2647-57U
2647-5AU
2647-5BU
2647-97U
2647-9AU
2647-9BU
Cross-referencing those model numbers to the Hardware Maintenance Manual, all T21's take the same motherboard FRU (12P3366) EXCEPT for models 2647-5xx, 9xx & Cxx, which take motherboard FRU 12P3369. All of the SXGA+ models are either -5xx or -9xx according to tawbook. In the tawbook description for the graphics controller, it says the 5xx/9xx models use the S3 Savage IX8+, and all other models use the S3 Savage IX8.
The motherboard would need to be replaced with FRU 12P3369. My guess would be that they are rare and when you can find one - expensive (if the seller knows what he's got). A quick search on eBay produced 0 results for that FRU. ACS Outlet will sell you one for $190
No thanks, I'll pass!
