T61 SATA 1.5 or 3.0?

#1 Post by thomas@schenkman.com » Fri Jun 15, 2007 7:11 am

Seeing as there are SATA 3.0 mobile drives availible, does anyone here know if the T61's support SATA 3.0?

Thanks in advance,
T

It probably does. But the actual speed difference is negligible.

From what I've read, most 3.0 drives are backwards compatible as well, sometimes needing a jumper change on the HD to put it into SATA 1.5 mode.

So even if the T61 only supports 1.5 and you bought a 3.0 drive, it should still work, and as Dead1nside pointed out, there is no real-world performance difference between the two.

even if you use sata II, the internal tranfer rate of a harddrive is way below even the sata I 1.5mbit/sec spec. the only difference you will see is when the drive sends data from it's buffer to the controller (burst rate) and this won't be a big factor in real world performance.
