So, is there actually any advantage in upgrading that would mitigate the loss of these functions?Lenovo wrote: This upgrade will remove the following functions: Rescue and Recovery workspace authentication, the ability to recover forgotten passwords, and the ability to encrypt backups with Client Security Solution. Why upgrade to Rescue & Recovery 4?

Re: Why upgrade to Rescue & Recovery 4?
One reason is that this upgrade is required to implement CSS8, and I've found CSS8 to be a major improvement over CSS7. I saw long authentication delays when using the fingerprint reader under CSS7, and they've disappeared under CSS8.Anthony S wrote:Regarding the upgrade to Rescue and Recovery 4 from 3.1So, is there actually any advantage in upgrading that would mitigate the loss of these functions?Lenovo wrote: This upgrade will remove the following functions: Rescue and Recovery workspace authentication, the ability to recover forgotten passwords, and the ability to encrypt backups with Client Security Solution. Thanks. Yes, I saw that CSS8 requires RnR4, but I don't use CSS at all because I don't see what use it is. Fingerprint logon works perfectly well without it. So, any other reasons for the upgrade to RnR4?Dodge DeBoulet wrote: One reason is that this upgrade is required to implement CSS8, and I've found CSS8 to be a major improvement over CSS7. Re: Why upgrade to Rescue & Recovery 4?
I believe you are failing to understand what they are trying to say here. I believe this refers to a backup made under Rescue and Recovery 3 data files. Under R & R 4 you can run a virus scan, of your note book (new) you can also save a backup with a password. CSS 8 also supports Password recovery. There is an update to R & R 4 that adds a new simpler interface.Anthony S wrote:Regarding the upgrade to Rescue and Recovery 4 from 3.1So, is there actually any advantage in upgrading that would mitigate the loss of these functions?Lenovo wrote: This upgrade will remove the following functions: Rescue and Recovery workspace authentication, the ability to recover forgotten passwords, and the ability to encrypt backups with Client Security Solution. You could do all those things under older versions of Rescue and Recovery and Client Security Solution too.DAH wrote:snip........Under R & R 4 you can run a virus scan, of your note book (new) you can also save a backup with a password. CSS 8 also supports Password recovery..........snip
Let me ask original poster one question why did you buy T60p? weren't you happy with your "previous" Thinkpad T23?. A new model brought improvement; something different than it's predecessor, can't you apply the same to a software?
A thread on Rescue and Recovery: Features and Benefits also there.
