Intel 3945ABG - anyone have channels 12-14 available?

#1 Post by AuroraGuy » Fri Jun 15, 2007 3:52 pm

I have 2 different access points that can go up to channel 14 but the Intel 3945abg card cant see them there (as expected)

Does anyone know how (if) I can get this card to see higher channels like that?

it is illegal in the US to do so, but the card can use channels that high. You'd probably need a different firmware/hacked driver. Don't worry about it.

Be careful about using access points you are not supposed to have access to.

Just a couple of weeks ago one guy was arrested for leaching a wifi connection from a coffee shop.

Huh how does that have anything to do with the original post? I know the guy you're talking about, he was sitting outside in his car and using the free internet from the cafe and they arrested  him since it's supposed to be for paying customers only. I don't remember where it was but there was some law they quoted as to why it's illegal instead of juts frowned upon. Certainly the owner wasn't being charged more but he should have at least got a coffee or something.

Anyways, channel 12-14 is blocked in the US because they would overlap with other technology out there and cause issues, only Europe, Asia and Africa has those frequencies available.

That's pushing it. An open hotspot intended for public use from a cafe that a guy got arrested for using? He must've been downloading porn or something.
