what kinda RAM for an r52?

What kind of ram do i need for an R52 with a pentium m 750? it comes with 2 slots and one is taken with a 512 stick.

would i be able to install this myself? how hard is this?

also, should i get 1 gig and have 1.5 gigs? or is that not a good idea?

You need PC2-4200 at 533MHz SO-DIMM.

R52 supports up to 2GB (1+1) maximum memory.

It's fairly easy, you just require a screw driver and need to know what you have to do. Go here to see the video on installing/removing the additional/standard DIMMs.

I suggest you get 2 (1+1) GB memory and sell the 512 MB, since memory has got very cheap now-a-days and doing so will give a more boost to your machine.

thanks alot.

i just watched the installation movie and the removal movie.

but ... am i only able to access 1 of the dimms and not both? im confused. :?

No, you're able to access both of them.

Older models had different places for standard and additional DIMM slots. The compartment on the bottom is for installing additional optional
memory and the one under the keyboard is where your factory installed standard memory lies by default.

thanks again. great info.

do you see any problem with leaving the 512 in the standard slot so i dont have to mess with the keyboard, and just putting a gig in the optional slot? are there any problems with this configuration?

They won't work in dual channel, however the difference will be negligible for an average user unless you use heavy applications/games like autoCad or something.

will it be ok to put a gig in the optional slot and have 1.5 gigs total? or not ok?

You could do that. But if you're not gonna buy a new machine soon you might as well go for 2 GB. I bought a R52 with 2 GB last year, and the price I paid at that time could get me 12 GB at today's price...

Ok Ive decided to just get two 1 gig sticks since its very cheap right now.

will this ram be very good? or is there something else i should consider?

Yes it is, and I suggest against buying from Fry's, they've got problems of their own, you might end up returning/exchanging the item.

thanks for the info, much appreciated.

i hate rebates. such a [censored] hassle and waste of time. everytime i submit one they try to screw me out of it.

i will order the corsair from newegg instead. thanks again guys.
