sure it works, check your settings in display properties to make sure it's enabled.

What Lenovo software is responsible for OSD? I mean - it is not Vista's standard, is it? What software do I need or where to enable brightness, volume OSD, Fn+F3, Fn+F9 etc.?

You need the Hotkey driver, version 2.x. You should also make sure the Lenovo System Interface Driver is installed.

Just a personal experience on my t60 when I installed the hotkey drivers for the OSD it caused 3D and Aero to stop working, don't know why, didn't really troubleshoot, just reinstalled vista from scratch to get it over with, make a restore point just in case. :) I didnt' have the option since i was dual booting with XP.

Thanks! That was it. I'm surprised how badly System Update works in Vista - I mean it doesn't offer some applications at all (though I would expect it to do so). For example on my 2007-FVG T60 it offered even completely WRONG wifi drivers. I had to find the correct drivers (Mini PCI (Atheros)) on web manually and install them.

By the way - no interference with Aero so far. If anything bad happens, I'll let you know here.

There isn't, atleast I haven't seen, yet.

Try the ThinkPad Mobility Center Customization for Windows Vista (32-bit). Not really an OSD but useful. After installation you'll find it under accessories as "Windows Mobility Center.
