When does warranty start --re x31,x41s

#1 Post by hunterbuyer » Sat Jun 16, 2007 10:40 am

Hi, I've found this forum extremely informative as I've started looking at thinkpads. Now I'm looking at an x31 and an x41 that the sellers both say are either new or never been under warranty. Is it possible to get the full 3 year warranty with these machines now, as theoretically this would be their first sale, or is there a time limit
thx, alan

The warranty starts when the machine is stamped a manufacturing date on it's bottom beside the serial and type number+when it leaves to it's final destination from asian warehouse.

So if you buy from a reseller the warranty is been already in effect prior to your buying.
"I've come a long, long way," she said, "and I will go as far,
With the man who takes me from my horse, and leads me to a bar."
The man who took her off her steed, and stood her to a beer,
Were a bleary-eyed Surveyor and a DRUNKEN ENGINEER.

True most of the time. However, Lenovo and some large resellers are able to reset the warranty to begin on the date the item is sold. They often do this without prompting.

And, more importantly, if you have the original invoice (or a copy), you can ask to Lenovo to reset it yourself. I've done so successfully several times. Sometimes a ThinkPad sits in a reseller's inventory for months or is a return product. This procedure works great for that.
