my z61m died today:(

#1 Post by blaeks » Sat Jun 16, 2007 6:01 pm

I placed my two weeks old z61m into hibernate and after about six hours I tried to power it back again when he stopped respond.
manifestations:
- when I press power button without AC plugged in it blinks yellow battery led about five times and nothing happens
- when I press pwr button with the AC plugged in the same.

I tried to wait, remove battery and pressing pwr button to empty capacitors, place back battery and try to power up. NOTHING!!
also tried to power up without battery, the same thing.

computer doesn't even start boot secvence, no initial fan blow, no powering ANYTHING else on mainboard.. just led signals and back to dead state?!
what the hell is with my zed?

Try this:

Take out the battery.
Unplug the AC adapter.
Press down the power button ten times.
Press down the power button an eleventh time and hold it down for 30 seconds.

Reattach the battery and the AC adapter.
Try again to turn it on.

No guarantees. It might work.

By the way, Lenovo Direct (U.S.A.) lets you return for full refund a computer that stops working within the first 21 days FROM THE DATE THEY SHIPPED IT TO YOU.

If you are still inside this window, consider returning it and getting a T60 or T61 or R61.

Just my two cents.

I will wait till tomorrow and try the trick. may be the capacitors will drain complicity trough the night. I detached batt and the cord and placed comp in shelf.

initially while I was in shock i tried to startup the computer with and without batt and without AC just batt.. and
and not pressing the pwr without batt....
interesting.. i will try it..

just one Q! is that trick for pressing 10 times pwr butt one official move, or practice revealed that by users??

p.s. I believe that death of my computer was the act of God. because he wants me to learn for my exam.:)))))))

the z series has been phased out of production by lenovo, and most of its features (widescreen, media card reader, webcam, firewire port) have been incorporated into the new T61 line.

you want to say that is better to take one T61 instead of Z61 series?

I do not understand "phased out", English is not my native language. but I think that you meant that Z61 series was one phase in development and T61 have all of the features z once has.

Z series has been phased out by lenovo US/Canada only as of yet, it is still being sold on other countries website.

Z61 or T61 is another debate, if you're happy with your Z61 performance then there's no need to go for T61.

Lastly phased out means it's disconnected, no longer being offered for purchase.

You can ask them to fix it.

You can ask them to exchange it for a new one that works.

You can ask for a refund.

thanks for your help people,
especially from you Doctor!

but I am deeply disappointed in ThinkPads now and in a situation not to know what laptop to take now.
if there is no decent thinkpads what else I is good enough?!!:)

there might be a problem refunding my money because I live in Serbia and paths of import are under question mark...
I had three models till now T23, R51e and 600.. and them were exploited to the bone and they didn't saw a servicer in their life.. I thought that them are indestructible. but these new china made series... just do not know what to think.
and all we have to do i think? isn't it?
think!

p.s. I am considering a MAC as my final choice! ! !
regz to all

Sorry to hear about the bad start-up. Maybe its a sign for you to get the T61, the $1200 you spent + a few more hundred could get you a newer thikpad model in a widesceen. 8)

Or see if you could complain enough to get an upgrade to the T61 since IBM no longer carries the Z series.
Now: Z61M, C2D, T7200, 160GB HD, 1GB

Past: T42, R52, R51, T20
