I am back to running Fan Control ver. 0.18 instead of the ver. 2.x before. This version is simpler to set up, and seems to run better for me. I can make adjustments more easily directly in the program, rather than messing with start and stop batch files in the 2.X version.
I have placed a shortcut in:
C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Start Menu\Programs\Startup, so the program starts when the machine boots. Running Windows XP for this program.
The fan runs about 2991-3098 rpm at 57deg C. when on light load. That means it still pushes some hot air out of the Thinkpad, helping the system remain cooler. This is better than having no fan activity, which would allow the chip to get hotter before kicking the fan in. (listened to advice of others in making this decision) The machine remains warm to the touch, but not hot. Exhaust air is warm, but not hot.
Fan sound is less loud than when in BIOS mode, and runs slower. BIOS mode fan speed is around 3900 to 4075. My settings cause less annoying whine, but low load cooling efficienty seems adequate.
==================
my modified ini file: (see the fan speed vs temp sittings at the end)
FanBeep=1200 0
MaxReadErrors= 10
// --------------------------------------------------------

my new speed vs. temp settings:
Level=47 0
Level=50 1
Level=55 1
Level=60 2
Level=70 128
Compare to the Default levels which are:
Level=47 0
Level=50 3
Level=55 4
Level=60 7
Level=70 128

Good settings, mine are:
Level=50 0
Level=52 1
Level=53 2
Level=56 2
Level=65 128
However I'm still not content with the fact my CPU is hot, I replaced Thermal compound in the CPU and GPU, but running the CPU at Max Performance with stock voltage of 1.340V the temp just would hover in the 56-58C ~! (CPU Usage: 7%)
Wonder if I would need to change the heatsink, maybe its bent or something.
This afternoon, I checked my uncle work Thinkpad T42, and when the fan kicks in at x speed (2900-3600rpm) it expells more hot air than my T42p. Should I suppose my T43p heatsink is not happy under my T42p chassis ?

Right now, this morning I'm running 54 deg C and fan rpm of 3086 and blowing slightly warm out the vent. I'm mentioning this just so you can compare your own readings. I have not done anything to my computer's innards...it's just stock, out of the box.xtr wrote:Good settings, mine are:

I've read some posts about a "long fan" modification...you might want to look into that idea from other users...
