Borked my predesktop? (Fixed!)

#1 Post by TPdude » Sat Jun 16, 2007 9:33 pm

Hello,
Short time lurker, shorter time thinkpadder here.

I wanted to back up my D predesktop partition, so I went (erroneously?) to unhide it in the bios so it could be seen by disk image software.
Went to Security - Disable predesktop (not precisely... can't get in to tell you exactly what I selected.) Got the red lettered screen warning me about doing this, clicked OK anyway as I could see no other options pertaining to unhiding that partition.

Rebooted and I still could not see the usually hidden partition in explorer or imaging program. No biggie, I'll just go in and re-enable it...
Now the Access IBM button throws me to a Starting PC-DOS and then says Rebooting, and does.

So.
I cannot access the bios through Access IBM (or anything else that is in Access IBM)

Any thoughts on how to recover the normal Access IBM/Predesktop functionality?

edit: changed title

Unless you re-partitioned, you should still be OK. Start it up and change the predesktop back to normal. Restart the machine. Shut it down again and it should reappear.

But I cannot get into the BIOS to change it back. :( Any way to enter bios without pressing Access IBM?

The service partition still exists, shows up in Knoppix and Windows disk managment shows a 3.39 GB unallocated area as well as the 27 gigs of C drive and 6.78 gigs of service partition.
Not sure that 3.39 was there before or not, as I let R&R set all that up fro me, or whether it's even relevant.

I don't mind not having a usable service partition as I have factory restore CD's, but I would like to be able to access the bios when necessary.

TIA for any insight.

Did you try pressing F1 at startup?

Normally this wil get you into BIOS setup.

Thank you!

(I'd tried F2 delete and insert... F1, it figures)
