Here's your options:

- Genuine IBM 72W (16V 4.5A) AC/DC Combo adapter (such as 22P9003 or 22P9021). Adapter has power cords for both AC and cigarette lighter/Empower jacks. Pro: you can simply use one adapter for all power situations. Con: it can be bulky and you have the added problem of keeping track of a second power cord.

- Genuine IBM 72W (16V 4.5A) DC adapter (22P7092). Pro: you can simply leave it in your car (unless you have two or more vehicles). Con: only does a DC-DC conversion; you still need your regular AC adapter.

- Aftermarket car adapter. Belkin, Targus, Kensington are makers that come to mind. Pro: usually are "universal" adapters capable of providing power to different types of laptops. Con: usually are "universal" adapters capable of providing power to different types of laptops :) . You have to be careful and make sure that the voltage and polarity are properly set for the Thinkpad. If you intend on using it with other equipment, the voltage and/or polarity MAY be different. And you must be sure that it will provide enough current for your R52 (4.5A).

- DC-AC inverter. Plugs into your cigarette lighter and outputs 110VAC. Simply plug your regular AC adapter into it and connect to the R52. Pro: can also be used to power other AC equipment. Con: depending upon the design of the inverter, can cause interference with radios or audio equipment (humming).

I typed in my model number at lenevo to get a list of compatable accessories.

I bought the ThinkPad 73P4485 72W Slim AC/DC Combo Adapter at newegg (73P4485). http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a ... 6834995031
