Is Win XP Service Pack 2 installed?

Wiped hard drive, reinstalled XP Home. My Computer and Belarc indicate SP 1. Windows Update lists only a number of hotfixes to be installed, not SP2. How do I confirm if this machine has SP1 or SP2?

Go to Start > All Programs > Accessories > System Tools > System Information. What is displayed will tell you. You can download SP2 from Microsoft.

when you turn on your laptop, it says Windows XP, under that, it would say Professional or Home Edition. if that line is gone entirely, you have SP2 installed. if you have SP1, then it will say Home Edition or Professional.

Thanks for the advice. Here's what happened. Went back to Windows Update, clicked on Automatic Update. Said download Service Pack 2 now.

I'd also download the standalone SP2 package and either make a slipstreamed install disc (there are instruction around the place to show you how that's done) or keep the downloaded file for future installs.

oh, yes, always keep installer files of the most commonly used apps, it keeps download time to a minimum when you do a new install.
