I've seen several threads in the forums where the OP or member is talking about their machines warranty running out shortly and that they may get Lenovo to replace or fix this or that (cosmetics mostly). What can you reasonably ask Lenovo to fix at that point? Or asked differently, here's a list of items on a laptop that are not perfect, what can someone ask Lenovo to do about these things under warranty? Is there a specific way to request that this type of work be done? In other words do you simply call up and say replace my worn keyboard please? What other cosmetic items would you add to this list? What items will Lenovo simply mail you without having to send the machine to the depot?
1.) Worn keyboard keys
2.) Worn palm rest
3.) Scuffs and scratches on the outer cases
4.) Chips of plastic missing from any component, usually the case itself
5.) Paint peeling or chipped
6.) Missing feet
7.) Any small outer component missing - .e.g. a PCMCIA Door, stickers, screws, those black screw covers...

Anything that can be attributed to bad design or faulty construction should (IMHO) be replaced under warranty. Anything that can be attributed to misuse or accident should not (but it then should be replaced if you have ThinkPad protection).
So on your list, I would say paint peeling should be covered. Doors and covers falling off or breaking with little force should also be fixed.
Shiny keys? Missing feet? Stickers? <shrug> They are cheap and they might cover them just to keep a happy customer.
Scuffs and scratches most definitely not.
Other opinions welcome, but Lenovo's is the one that counts.
