I have read the manual and it says if I want to recover the system to the original state I have to press the ThinkVantage button when the system starts where it says press the blue ThinkVantage button.
But after I press it, I was given only 3 options which are
press Esc to load the system normally
press F1 to go into BIOS setup utility
press F12 for boot option
and the boot option only has CD or HD for me to choose
I dont see where I can to to the Rescue and Recover Tool
for recovery.
Can someone tell me how?
Thanks

it sounds like you may have a corrupted or deleted "recovey" partition. An easy way to check if it is deleted is to under xp is to right -click my computer and select the disk management snap-in. Under disk 0, you should see two partitions: the small one is your recovery partition and this should not be accessible by browsing but you will be able to see it in this snap-in.
If you don't see the small partition, then it is impossible to boot to rescue and recovery without an external drive or CD with it.
You didn't by chance blow away the factory install when you got it?
I think you can install a new partition but it is kind of tricky b/c the system migration manager has to be upgraded in a specific order. I would consider a quick call to IBM and get the skinny, plus if you whine a little they will send a fresh install set of disks for free (you are supposed to make these yourself with rescue and recovery, but obviously you can't b/c it's broken:)
