X31 repair?

Sent my 2672-JHU for warranty repair because it would not turn on. IBM says the system board was corroded by a "foreign substance" and wants $750 to replace it. The machine has a year and change left on the IBM warranty, already went back once for a new display. Should I go for the repair? All suggestions appreciated.

Absolutely no. You can buy a new thinkpad for $750...

Did you ever spill anything on your X31, or did it ever get wet in the rain, or something like that?

Yike! In that case I guess my best move is to get the machine back and see for myself.
