Best way to clean ThinkPad rubberised coating?

#1 Post by Jason404 » Tue Jun 19, 2007 1:59 pm

I want to clean some ThinkPads, without using any solvent that would damage the rubber coating. I also do not want to damage the coating by friction, so some sort of solvent would be preferable, and I don't to leave any residue. It seems like there might be some deeply ingrained dust in the texture.

Also, the keyboard: how to get rid of greasy marks? Maybe slightly soapy water?

What do you recommend?
T410, X220, X200s, X200, X40, X31, X30, 755c
STOLEN! sold still used in the family broken for sale!

One of the article in FAQ forum here.
"I've come a long, long way," she said, "and I will go as far,
With the man who takes me from my horse, and leads me to a bar."
The man who took her off her steed, and stood her to a beer,
Were a bleary-eyed Surveyor and a DRUNKEN ENGINEER.

Use 50% isopropyl alcohol wipes for best results.

I have had good luck with "Meguiars Vinyl and Rubber Cleaner" available at your local auto parts store and maybe Wal Mart.

It should go without saying, but I'll say it anyway.

Do NOT use acetone.

Luckily it didn't cost me a ThinkPad to learn that lesson.

For the rubberized coating I use a soap and water mix and a paper towel. Worked wonders with my T60 and now my with the X60s.

I would wet (sounds scary but isn't) the surface and wipe with PT a few times.
