Question to TPfancontrol 0.21 README file

#1 Post by MartinB » Tue Jun 19, 2007 2:16 pm

I have a question regarding the configuration of TPfancontrol 0.21. Turning to the README file, the following instruction is mentioned:

a) to stop acpi-embedded-controler from spamming system.log
switch to acpi-embedded-controler with NoLog-Option
"acpiecnl.sys" instead of original "acpiec.sys"

double click on: instecnl.bat

double click on: acpiecLogOff.reg

confirm the registry change and reboot.

Attention: now no error is reported from acpiec!

Could someone please explain this "spamming"-problem? Will it affect performance, I haven't noticed anything yet...

It probably means that the log entry from acpi-embedded-controller is so abundant that it would be hard for users to browse other entries in the system log. You can choose not to log acpi events by using that .bat file.

Is this log-file simply termed "system.log" or....? Did a search for it, couldn't find it.....

I think that what is meant is the event log (C:\Windows\system32\config\ACEEvent.evt - browse it though: "My Computer --> Computer Management --> Log"), or check this thread - or see the Fan Control thread (and search there for "event log").

To see the log, go to Start > Control Panel > Administrative Tools > Event Viewer.

I played with TPfancontrol a few months back. I found that it did indeed spam the Event Log in Event Viewer. This kind of thing bugs me, so I did a search and found the solution. I doubt if this problem has much effect on system performance, but I often go to Event Viewer to look for problems, and I like to see as few events logged as possible.

EDIT: One thing to consider as well - when a lot of events are continuously being logged, your log file will be rapidly growing in size.
