External Optical Drives

#1 Post by grimm01 » Tue Jun 19, 2007 3:04 pm

Hello,

I have been lurking for a while and now I have some questions. I currently use a X-60 for work and I have the ultra-base. I will be attending B-school in the Fall and I am thinking about getting a X-61. I like the small size, the light weight and after using it for over a year, the widescreen T-61 just seems gigantic and heavy.

I don't want to get the base and have to take it everywhere with me, so I was considering a usb cd or dvd drive. Do you guys have any recommendations? I saw an ealier thread about a dvd drive off ebay, but I would like some other choices.

Thanks,
grimm01

I am about to purchase this model: http://centrix-intl.com/details.asp?productid=1825

I have the same model in my Mac Mini and it works great.

Probably whatever random drive that's on sale down at Staples or OfficeDepot will work fine. I've had good experiences with external Sony drives.

I have one of the Plextor's for sale right now if you're interested. Brand new, sealed in box. Got two, don't need this one. (It's the best portable DVD writer out there.)
