250 GB HDD on t60 or T61?

#1 Post by palta » Wed Jun 20, 2007 11:04 am

Is there anybody here who is using one of the new 250 GB drives on Thinkpads T60 or T61? Are there any known limitations?

To my knowledge there's still no 250GB SATA drives for laptop. Unless you're referring using a external 3.5" drive. Max size for a laptop drive ATM is 200GB made by Hitachi known as the 7K200. I think Dell and Alienware are the only ones offering those drives with their equipment these days. Lenovo might start selling those drives. You could get one separately in summer this year.

xtr,

Yes there are 250GB 2.5" drives. Just been announced a couple of days ago :

palta,

I very much doubt anyone has yet one of those.. just been announced, and it usually takes several weeks / months to reach the field/stores after annoncements are made. However, in theory, being SATA disks there should be no problem running those in a T60/T61.

Western Digital is also shipping a 250 GB 5400 rpm drive:

If you need 250 GB, this is it right now. But if you can "make do" with 200 GB, Hitachi's new 7K200 is the bee's knees as far as performance goes.

I bought a Samsung HM250IJ last week and it works like a charm in my T60p 2613-HQU.
