I took the covers off a defective 72-watt power brick. The A/C socket is defective (not the A/C cord, because I continue to use that, and not the D/C end, because I could wiggle the A/C and get power).
The A/C socket appears to be firmly soldered to the board inside. However, on close inspection with a magnifier, one joint is black between the connector and the ring of solder. Further, the ring of solder has a black mark like an arc on it. So methinks bad solder joint (went cold over time).
Otherwise, unremarkable. Big transformer, small coil, choke or autotransformer, big capacitor, several medium capacitors (filter capacitors, no doubt), rectifiers on a heat sink, and a circuit board.
