I have a external USB 2.0 case thats for laptop cd drives.
I have a cd-rw/dvd-rom in it.
24xburn 24xreburn 24x read 8x dvd-rom
Has a usb cable and another usb cable for power if you want to burn a cd.
Just a cd or dvd just one cable is fine.
Sorry i dont have my digital cam handy for pic's.

The cd-rw/dvd-rom in this can will wotk in thinkpads also.Just add the side and back peices from the cd-rom you take out.I used it in a 390X and a 600X system fine.
