Rollcage-Screen protection T61 series

#1 Post by caffemusse » Thu Jun 21, 2007 3:43 am

Ciao,

As I am just on the verge to buying a new T61 (as soon as they arrive in Denmark) I'm wondering if the new Roll-cage design makes screen protectors like Nusheild superfluous? :?

Anyone got ideas (apart from running a moterbike on the T61) that demonstrates better screen protection than earlier models?

Should I buy a Nushield anyway?

When talking about screen damage I am refering to pressure damage (ie contact with keayboard) but also contact (longterm) contact with the touchpad that results when carrying the unit around alot.

Hope to hear from you guys sun.

I wouldnt even bother, its not a macbook or something that has screen flexing problems leaving key prints on the LCD. I carry my T60 15" (4x3) everywhere in a backpack on a daily basis, and it has NEVER had keyprints, let alone touchpad (its recessed!) marks on the screen.

At various times I have have some of the greasiest paws depending on if I was eating while typing, or doing carwork, meaning any keys touching the LCD would be quite noticeable from the oil marks. Never had it happen once.

Ok Volvo thx for the tips...,

(not to be rude) But as my sig implies I've had a number of 4:3s aslo, and they managed to scratch and make marks, and I'm not that carless
Reason I ask, is that T61 Widescreen is a different build altogether.
On top of this, the area of LCD for a widescreen is suceptible in a different way to pressure...then leading to scratches.
But my inquiry pertains in particular to the 14' wide, since none of us here in the forum have seen one before.
Therefore, I hope to hear from other widescreen ppl that have good or bad experiences with the flex/scratch suceptability of the wides.

cheers

considering the minimal cost, I would get one. Or even just a simple cloth pad to put over your keyboard when you close it up. The new magnesium rollcage might make the screen more resistant to breaks/cracks etc. but in the minimal time i've had with my t61, it seems like the screen could still flex a little if you had a thick book or two on top of it.

I really like the nushield and consider it one of the best $20 I ever spent. It keeps me from getting all paranoid whenever my friends poke my screen to show me something.
