Thinking of buying X41t. Fast enough?

#1 Post by jkooman » Thu Jun 21, 2007 4:39 pm

I'm thinking of buying a new X41 tablet. The only thing I want to use the tablet is for browsing (FF) and Outlook 2003.

I prefer the X41t instead of the more or less same priced X60s because of the beautiful screen. But my main hesitation now is if the system is snappy/ responsive enough for my needs. Many people on the internet complain it's so slow.

Can someone tell me his personal comments please?

Thanks! Jan

If browsing and office tasks are the main uses for this TP, It will be fast enought.

I would suggest upgrading to 1gb of RAM as this will make it snappier.

I have to confess that I have never used one though.

Jan,

No worries. It browses just fine, and all the basic office productivity works at a nice clip as well. However, I'd highly suggest Vista (shudder) or some distro of linux with wacom drivers. I had some love/hate relationship issues with xp tablet 2005. Lastly, get the extra 1GB stick of memory and get to 1.5GB (rated max, but apparently others on the board have been able to get a 2GB stick to recognize and work).

I concur with everything that has been said here. Vista just works better on my X41T tablet (better but not faster) than Windows XP Tablet 2005, which has just too many glitches. I must add that I chose not to install any IBM drivers and let Vista do its thing (I don't use the fingerprint gadget, however you might need it).

I also use the whole Office 2003 suite, speed not a problem. The computer I use has 1,5gb RAM, I'm not sure I would gain anything by adding another gb.
