Does it harm the hard disk? (15k picture inside)

Hi all,

I like to keep my laptop on my desk at this position, at this angle. Does it harm the hard disk and/or laptop in any way? We are talking about working laptop, of course.

It will not harm the hdd, however try to keep it as stable as you can.

As long as you don't drop it off the desk, there should not be any problem.

Active protection *may* keep the hard drive safe, but if it falls off the desk it won't keep something from breaking.

My question for you is, what's the thing you're putting at the bottom to keep it at this angle? Becasue if it slips there's a possibility of seeing broken (thinkpads are tough but you never know) things, as Mike already mentioned.

It's funny, I thought I will have to invent something on my own, but the laptop simply bases on the gum footers which are on the bottom side of the laptop. I was surprised, but it is very stable at this position . So my only concern is about the hard drive.

I've heard that hard disks are designed to work in horizontal or vertical position, but never at the angle. On the other side, I know that laptop hard disks are designed to work in different positions. So I am not sure.

HDs are working best if their position remains the same throughout the life of that HD. If say you had a hard disk that has been running horizontally for 2 years, and then mount it vertically, it may fail soon after. Same goes for the other way around. Laptop HDs are less critical, but will mostly operate in some more or less horizontal position.
If most of the bottom of you laptop is supported by that 'thing' and thus is being prevented from flexing (as mentioned before), your TP should be fine.
