Making your own backup battery for the TransNote
Making your own backup battery for the TransNote
The backup battery on my TransNote ran out recently. Buying a new one from Lenovo was ludicrously expensive (> AU$250).
I found some info on http://www.transnote.info which inspired me to make my own - from only AU$9 worth of bits!
I took some pics and wrote up a neat document. You can get the PDF on

Hey, great! Nice Work!
Thanks, I'm doing just the same at the moment. (Already bought the replacement batteries.)
With me the "green battery has also leaked and only holds less than half of the 7.2 Volts.
Any tips to replacing these with cheap ones?

I just notice i got the br 2016 as replacements for the yellow one, but i'll try anyway should work.
I have no idea what the green one is for, but similar battery packs are sold as Memo-puffers, so maybe they are for the ram or similar.
I've got it open but I can't read the writing on them because its to corroded. But from the size its quite similar to a Varta V15H.
I would post a picture, problem is I've never done it, so any suggestion as how to?

Hello,
The green battery (consists of 6 Varta V20HR cells) powers the Transcribe when the Transnote is not plugged to the power outlet. The Transcribe won't power up if the green battery is dead regardless of your main battery condition (again, only when is not plugged to the AC power). This is a well-known Transnote "feature".
There are quite a few posts on Transnote.com forum about this.
As per fixing either yellow (CMOS) or green (Transcribe) battery,
there were also several posts on the same forum (including mine).
I rebuilt both batteries about 4 years ago and they are still working fine since then, unlike the main battery which is almost dead
.
If you need more info, let me know.
Thanks,
Val

Ok, Thanks for the info.
I just put my Transnote back together again without the green battery and because I haven't got the thinkscribe feature, it works without any errors. So I thought it might not be to important.
BTW: My old FSC Lifebook had a green battery back next to its lithium bios battery too.
