Microsoft will ask you to reenter the serial # before making updates. their computers will detect changes in your machine and think that you've installed your copy of XP on a new machine.
you dig?!?!?!?!?!?

I'm guessing it's the same down there. But the few systems i had and have with Windows (that came with the system)(laptops and desktops)
You can make some changes like changing the ram, video card, adding another hard drive,dvd-rw's,ect.You can do this without reactiveing windows.
I only had to call into Microsoft once to get a new OEM # because i formated my system and installed windows more than three times.
Microsoft said to me when i had them on the phone you can reinstall your store bought copy of windows 3 times befor you have to call in and get a new OEM#.
Even than it's just a quick call.
I realy dont think changing the ram will do anything.

if the cd came with the system, then it's fine. but this is a win 98 laptop. i've upgraded it to xp but reconfigured it more than 3x and i had to call microsoft --when the config no longer match with what they have on file.

Oh, I see....you are using a retail version of XP. I forgot that the T21 didn't come with XP...only 98 and 2K.

I beleive the T23 was the first T series to have XP as a factory option.
