What DSL wireless router works the best with IBM? Linksys, D-Link, Netgear....

Any will work. Don't get a "b", though as it won't grow with you.

I got a new T42 two weeks ago. I had an old slipstream 11b wireless router in my house and decided to upgrade to an 11g. After a viewing a lot of reviews, I went with the D-Link DI-624. The IBM (and my Dell 5100) picked it up right away.

It seemed to me that the reviews on the DI were better than the others, expecially the Linksys, which seemed to be all over the board on reviews.

I've been very pleased with it so far. Much more reliable than the old Slipstream.

Since i haven't recived my laptop yet, i cannot comment on how the thinkpad works with d-laink routers, however, my desktop computer is connected to the inter net via dlink PCI wireless adapter + dlink router. It works perfectly.

They're all pretty good. If you read the CNET reviews, the DLink, Linksys and Netgear all did well. I use a Linksys, and it gives a very strong, fast, and consistant connection, right out of the box with my T42.

Dlink 614+ here and no problems, aside from the odd reboot (plug and unplug) needed to restore link to DSL modem. 11b is more than enough for broadband, but may be slow for networking.

The new Dlink which got a great review on CNET, (DI-624 I think) is at Costco, with a Dlink wireless PCMCIA card included for 117. Seems like a great deal. You could always sell the card to someone, and get a great deal on the router.

If you don't mind mailorder, newegg.com has the dwl-926 combo for $119 (delivered). The kicker is that a newegg purchase is eligible for the $40 rebate on that combo; costco is explicitly ineligible according to the rebate form. 119-40=80 or so. Not bad for a "108 Mbps" combo. I only need the pccard, but that's about 50 (less 10 rebate), but a G-AP (router, too, I believe, but don't need another, and 4-port switch) for $40 more is okay by me.

BTW: the dwl-926 combo is the new di624 AP and the dwlg650 pccard, 108 Mbps versions. The rebate runs Oct 4 through Nov 14 2004. And of course, this means new versions will be around the corner.
