Install Windows 2000 Pro - need upgrade CD

#1 Post by RobertJohnB » Fri Jun 22, 2007 4:09 pm

The original hard drive on my ThinkPad 600x is toast, kaput, deceased. I have replaced it with a new, larger one. I did not have a Windows 2000 Pro CD, so I borrowed one from one of my former students and installed it to the point where it asks for the serial number.

When I entered my serial number from the Certificate of Authenticity, that number was rejected. When I used my student's serial number from the case, it worked. After installation, I tried a program called Keyfinder to try change the serial number to my legal value, and it also would not accept it. I contacted Microsoft and they confirmed my number was legal, but it was an OEM version, so contact the OEM. The OEM (IBM) tech guy was sympathetic, but basically, the rescue CD's are no longer available. The only suggestion he offered was to try an upgrade CD. And that is where I am right now, looking for the Upgrade version (NT to Win2k) of Windows 2000 Pro, not the full version which I have.

So to repeat, I do have a legal license, but no way to use it. Can anyone help? I would like the upgrade Windows 2000 CD - no serial number - just the CD to try installing it.

Request for Restore CD in Marketplace. I am sure someone will have it.
"I've come a long, long way," she said, "and I will go as far,
With the man who takes me from my horse, and leads me to a bar."
The man who took her off her steed, and stood her to a beer,
Were a bleary-eyed Surveyor and a DRUNKEN ENGINEER.
