My external screen is blinking/flickering and choppy

#1 Post by TJMacGyver » Fri Jun 22, 2007 6:46 pm

My screen just suddenly started flickering again. it's the external monitor, a brand new samsung 225MW 22" lcd (it didn't flicker until 10 min. ago.

it's a bar accross the screen, approx. 3-4 cm thick blinking on the screen at random places. but specific time intervals.

the first blink appears, then 1 sec after another, then 10 sec after another blink, and last blink is 6 sec after that. (it loops)

it just suddenly started while I was watching a movie, there was some problem with the player, but I can't see how that could affect the general display.

Also I have ever since I installed Vista been having trouble with the display kinda 'pausing' for split second every 5 sec. (approx.)
This is in both games, movies and the desktop.

does anybody have a solution for any of my problems?

it's really bugging me.

I found this too unfortunately I do not know if this was a problem of wow or Windows Vista as it appeared when I did an update of both (at the same time.)

Basically Wow now has tearing but has always had that pause. I could deal with the pause but the tearing has me going back to XP.

I also had that in wow, and I thought it was only in wow, but then I also noticed it in movie playback and thougt it could be a codec problem, but then I also noticed it in general windows stuff.

You might try turning down Hardware Acceleration for your Graphics adapter (if that option is available), and see if that makes a difference. In XP with an ATI GPU, you find this setting: Display > Properties > Settings > Advanced > Troubleshoot tab. [I currently do not have a working Vista install to explore this any further.]

I'll try that in Vista. To make it clear though, these problems did not exist in Windows XP.

I had a flicker bug for a while, but its frequency was low enough to just be an annoyance rather than a show stopper.
