X30 not charging battery

#1 Post by billp117 » Fri Jun 22, 2007 8:16 pm

This is a new problem for me...my X30 will not regularly charge the battery unless I shut down XP, remove the battery, reinsert and restart the computer. This somehow kick-starts the charging process brings back to normal. The battery then charges to full and will float at that level for days. The same problem happens when plugged into my X3 slice.

But, when the battery drops down without the AC plugged in...I have to repeat the above process. Any suggestions?

I do have another old battery and charger, and the battery I am using is brand new…but from China and is after-market.

Thanks

The problem is definitely with the battery. I learned my lesson of buying the original from the manufacturer after getting a battery for my wife's hp from ebay which had somewhat similar issues.

I will swap in my five year old IBM brand battery with almost 200 cycles and see if it still causes the problem. The battery supplier offered a six month warranty. My guess is that by the time you screw with a return...it is not worth your while. I can also work through PayPal if I don't get results from the eBay supplier.

Thanks for the advice...much appreciated.

Sure, you should try the old battery to see if it reports the same behavior as the newer one to you. I don't think it would due to the fact the battery possesses the same odd symptoms in the X3 slice too, hence minimizing the chances of something to do with the motherboard.

By the way the ebay seller I bought that hp battery from was very helpful and generated the refund very promptly, but she was not from China.

Good Luck!

Heard from the supplier and they want me to run battery analysis software and report back. Will see what they say after the tests.

Strange thing happened...the battery suddenly started charging correctly. It appears to be working just fine and charges 100%. The communications with the eBay supplyer was prompt and this little problem may possibly not return.

Sorry for the bandwidth for what turned out to be a valuble lesson. I have since found good used genuine IBM batteries on eBay for the same price. Or, perhaps I will order new from IBM/Lenovo in the future.

The battery is not charging again unless I remove it and plug it back in. The China company said to send it back and they would send me a new one. Guess I will give it another try since I already have $40 invested. It will work, but evey now and then I have to do this little trick to get it charging again. When charged, I get 3+ hours of operation.

This company is on eBay with the 4460 mA batteries.

Well, lets assume if they send you another battery after they receive yours. In this process, you are losing some money on shipping it back and would have to wait 10-12 days for the replacement to arrive and you can only hope about the new one being trouble free.

So I suggest you ask for refund, if appropriate and buy from another source or lenovo, if possible.

Yes...I tried for a refund and they wanted to send me the new battery.

I will try asking for a refund again...thanks for the input.
