Microsoft Corp. today announced revenue of $14.40 billion for the quarter ended March 31, 2007, a 32% increase over the same period of the prior year.

Comparison with the same period in 2006 isn't fair because there wasn't a new Windows release at that time.

Also, keep in mind that many people decide they don't like Vista AFTER buying a copy and using it.

So what time period would you propose to compare with? Microsoft clearly had a strong quarter, and I see no evidence that Vista has been a disaster for them.

As Kyocera said, people complained when Windows XP came out. The complaints are nothing new. And as long as people buy the Vista upgrades, it's all revenue to Microsoft. (And new systems will very soon all ship with Vista, whether they have proper hard disks or small SSDs.)

The time period when XP was released. It may also be informative to compare those numbers on that web site with what Microsoft had predicted.

It was a strong quarter, but how much money had Microsoft put into the development of Vista? Whether Vista has been a disaster depends on how these two numbers compare.

I welcome your plan to dig out these numbers.

As I said, until then, I see no evidence that Vista is a disaster to Microsoft. They continue to be strongly profitable (even while they were paying for Vista development), and the latest quarter, after Vista's launch, shows a strong increase in both revenues and profits.
